Mission Asks People To Be UnderAware
Vernon’s Upper Room Mission has launched an unusual but important campaign that will run through July.
The social agency is asking people to donate new and unused underwear — in what is called the UnderAware campaign.
“Our outreach department has noticed that the demand for both men’s and women’s are very high while the supply that we have is very limited or often absent,” says executive director Lia Anderson.
Anderson says for people living in poverty or homelessness, underwear is a very basic need, but one of the most difficult items to acquire.
“It’s our fun summer campaign. People don’t usually think about donating underwear. It also brings awareness that everyone deserves a fresh, clean pair of underpants.”
Donations can be dropped off at the Mission at 3403 27th Avenue Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm.
The goal is to get at least 250 pairs donated over the month.
