New restaurant planned for Okanagan College food and tourism centre

Okanagan College is planning a new student-led restaurant and cafe as part of its $61 million dollar Centre for Food, Wine and Tourism now under construction in Kelowna.

The college says the project remains on schedule and on budget, with the new eatery expected to open in fall 2027. The restaurant will be open to students and the public and will offer both sit-down dining and cafe service focused on Okanagan-inspired cuisine.

Okanagan College is working with well-known British Columbia chef Ned Bell to develop the vision for the restaurant. Culinary students will take part in day-to-day operations, including menu development and food preparation, while learning alongside instructors and guest chefs from across the region.

As planning for the new facility moves ahead, the colleges current training restaurant, Infusions, is closing to allow focus on the transition. Over the next 18 months, culinary students will be placed weekly in restaurants throughout the Okanagan to gain hands-on experience until on-campus training resumes when the new centre opens.

Most of the funding comes from the Province of British Columbia, with additional support through a community fundraising campaign led by the Okanagan College Foundation.

Construction on the Centre for Food, Wine and Tourism began in 2025.
