Canada Day Weekend Very Busy in Vernon

Jun 29, 2017 | 5:52 AM

The upcoming long weekend is expected to be the busiest one for tourism this summer.

Vernon’s Tourism Manager Ange Chew says the activities include Canada Day at Polson Park, and the fireworks at Kin Beach Saturday.

“We also have many Canada 150 events all around town like at Davison Orchards and the O’Keefe Ranch. Also our annual Funtastic sports and music festival is this weekend.”

New this year is Theatre BC’s Mainstage celebration from June 30th to July 8th.

“We will probably be sold out of accommodations by the weekend but we do have some availability left at some of our hotels
We’ve probably got about 15 percent availability.”

Chew says provincial campsites are full, and private campgrounds are close to capacity, with a wait list at the Vernon Visitors Centre on 39th Avenue.

Chew says they expect just as many Alberta visitors but they won’t be bringing their boats, due to the high lake levels.
