Federal funding supporting algae bloom monitoring in Kelowna
A federal program is supporting a water protection project in the Central Okanagan.
The Canada Water Agency said it will be providing $200,000 over two years to work collaboratively with the City of Kelowna and Westbank First Nation on a project to implement a monitoring and early-warning system for harmful algae blooms.
The project aims to establish a standardized algae and cyanobacteria monitoring and response network across the Okanagan basin to strengthen drinking water safety and climate resilience.
The funds are part of the broader $4.5-million investment in 39 freshwater projects across Canada.
