Truck fire on bridge

Jul 27, 2026 | 10:34 AM

A brake fire on a transport truck caused delays on the William Bennett Bridge Sunday evening.

Firefighters quickly brought the situation under control, but two firefighters suffered minor injuries after a small explosion beneath the trailer.

Northbound traffic was affected for about 30 minutes.

In a media release, the Kelowna Fire Department said they were called around 7:30 pm to a transport truck fire in the Northbound lanes of the bridge.

The first arriving officer advises that the brake system on the trailer of the transport truck had been on fire but it now appears to be out. Crews cooled the brakes using a hose line.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries from a small explosion under the trailer.

There were no injuries to the public.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with 2 engines and a command unit including nine fire personnel. RCMP were also assisting on scene.
