Open House On Future Of Ranch Land

Jun 26, 2017 | 5:15 PM

A chunk of BX Ranch land the Regional District of North Okanagan is considering selling is being eyed by a community group to save as green space.

The BX Ranch Land Task Force sees the 55 hectare property near East Hill as perfect for a variety of community purposes.

Spokesman Terry Donnelly says they’re holding an Open House tomorrow night (June 27) to create some interest.

“There’s a group of us. We just feel it’s so ideally situated for future green space, park that we really hope to hold it in the public hand.”

Donnelly says it could be turned into an agricultural park for passive recreation, education and research.

“But right now, it’s being farmed and I don’t think there’s any immediate need for park there right now to be developed, so we’d like to see them continue to leasing the land out to the farmer that’s haying it right now.”

Donnelly says it makes sense for the area to have a large green space.

“The population of the East Hill of Vernon is I think probably the highest density population in our area bar none, and they actually have very little park land.”

The open house Tuesday is from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Vernon Library.
