Planned pile burning begins in Okanagan regional park to support wildfire recovery
The Regional District of Central Okanagan has announced a controlled pile burning operation in Rose Valley Regional Park as part of ongoing wildfire recovery efforts.
The work, scheduled to take place from December 8, 2025, through January 31, 2026, will proceed only under safe weather and venting conditions.
Crews will burn remaining woody debris and slash left behind from previous hazard tree removal and salvage operations. Officials say the process reduces the risk of future wildfires while supporting the long-term health of Okanagan forests.
The Okanagan region features over 2,100 hectares of parkland with 86 kilometres of trails across 30 regional parks. While smoke and flames may be visible from surrounding areas and across Okanagan Lake, residents are advised to contact 9-1-1 only if fire extends beyond park boundaries.
