Okanagan College launching new construction programs to meet demand
Okanagan College is launching two new programs aimed at filling the thousands of specialist construction jobs expected in B.C. over the next decade.
The one-year Sustainable Construction Management certificate and two-year Sustainable Design and Construction Management diploma are designed to train people to build safer, more efficient and affordable homes and buildings. The programs are offered mostly online in the evenings, with a one-week in-person session at the Penticton campus at the start of the fall term.
College officials say graduates will be ready for jobs such as site coordination, project supervision and energy advising — many with salaries between $90,000 and $120,000 a year. A $495,000 grant from FortisBC helped support the development of the programs and expand access to training.
Online information sessions for interested students will be held in the coming weeks. More details are available at okanagan.bc.ca.
