Sovereign Lake Nordic Club holding Olympic trials

Dec 1, 2025 | 1:30 PM

The local cross country ski venue will play host to Canada’s Olympic hopefuls.

Nordiq Canada said Olympics Canada would hold its cross country ski trials at Sovereign Lake Nordic Club.

The trials were originally to planned to be held at Prince George’s Caledonia Nordic Ski Centre, but organizers decided to move it to the local venue due to poor snow conditions in the Northern B.C. city.

“This decision was extremely difficult, and we are deeply grateful to the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and the Prince George community for everything they put into preparing for this event,” Beckie Scott, CEO of Nordiq Canada, said in a release.

“Their commitment, professionalism, and passion reflect why Prince George is recognized as a world-class Nordic venue. Unfortunately, weather is the one factor none of us can control.”

Nordiq Canada expressed its disappointment with having to move the Olympic qualifier, though noted the local venue will serve well for the events.

“Sovereign Lake has a strong history of hosting high-quality competitions, and we are confident it will provide the conditions our athletes need as they compete for spots on the 2026 Olympic Team,” Scott said.

The Olympic trials will go December 13-17, 2025. This was the original schedule for the trials in Prince George as well.

Sovereign Lake Nordic Club also opened its trails for cross country skiers Monday, Dec. 1.
