Local senior dog care organization receives charity status

Nov 24, 2025 | 12:34 PM

Fletcher’s Keep Senior Dog Foundation has officially been granted registered charitable status.

The Vernon-based organization is volunteer-run and dedicated to providing support and creating a refuge for aging dogs so they are never left to suffer or die alone.

“This milestone marks a turning point for us, and it is fitting during Senior Pet Month too,” Volunteer Executive Director, Anita Dunford, stated.

“With charitable status, we can access more funding opportunities, issue tax receipts to donors, and expand our programs to help even more senior dogs and their loving owners stay together.”

Fletcher’s Keep provides veterinary care and support to struggling owners and their dogs throughout the Okanagan, and currently helps three or four dogs and owners facing crisis each month.

The organization is running a 50/50 draw campaign to support its work. Details of that initiative can be found at the foundation’s website.
