West K mayor won’t run again

West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom is stepping away from politics after the next municipal vote next October.

Milsom said the move comes as he shifts his focus toward family, including his three grandchildren.

He says he is proud of major city projects completed during his tenure, from water treatment upgrades to new fire halls.

The mayor says he will finish the term and hopes the early announcement gives prospective candidates time to prepare.

In a statement Milsom said, in part, “I have made the tough decision not to seek re-election in the next British Columbia municipal election on October 17, 2026. I have always received tremendous support from my family while serving our community. Our family has grown over the past few years with the happy addition of three grandchildren, and I look forward to the opportunity to spend more time with both my family and friends. I will deeply miss the meaningful work and the outstanding people but will continue supporting the success of our great community through volunteer contributions following the end of this Council Term. “
