Snow Plows at the Ready

Vernon ready to clear roads once snow starts to fly

Nov 14, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The City of Vernon is ready for the winter weather.

With the temperature dropping and the short-term forecast calling for a chance of overnight flurries starting early as Sunday, Nov. 16, the city said it had its snow crews geared up and ready to clear the streets and sidewalks.

“We’ve completed switching equipment over for the winter, have restocked the salt sand sheds for the season, and our snowplows are ready to get to work,” Ian Adkins, Manager of Roads, Drainage and Airport Operations, said.

“Just as our crews are prepared to step into action when the snow falls, we want to remind residents that they too play an important part in our community’s snow clearing and ice control efforts.”

The city said crews were already out deicing and advance treating the roads, and will be ready to start clearing streets once the snow starts to fly.

It noted that roads will be cleared on a priority basis starting with the major arteries, bus routes, school zones and problem areas; residential roads and priority lanes; and then lanes and cul-de-sacs.

Plowing work won’t begin until after the snow has stopped falling.

People were advised to move their cars off the streets once snow starts to fall to ensure the snow plowing work is done faster and more effectively.

Clearing snow off sidewalks and walkways are the responsibility of property owners.
