Canada Day Fireworks Road Closure

Jun 20, 2017 | 11:43 AM

Organizers of the Canada Day fireworks have added some contingencies because of the high level of Okanagan Lake.

President of the organizing committee, David Frost, says a section of Lakeshore Road will be closed.

“So it will be closed for through traffic but access will still be maintained to the various areas, residential areas around off Lakeshore”

That will give people more space to watch from the roadway.

” If you look at the forecast, we’re looking at maybe dropping 10 centimetres of lake level between now and then, so that’s only going to give us about a foot and a half of beach area, so it just would’nt be safe to try to position people along the beach with that little room to use.”

David Frost adds that security will be in place to keep people off the beach.

” We’ll have volunteers as well as bylaw and RCMP will be present as well making sure people be safe and we’re also going to have some barrier tapes set up as well higher than the Gabion barriers there just to discourage people from doing that because that wouldn’t be a good idea.

Shuttle buses will take people from Marshall Fields down Tronson Road to the park at Kin Beach.

There are other viewing areas around the lake as well including Paddlewheel Park and the Bella Vista area.
