Trail Fixers Hard At Work

Jun 19, 2017 | 6:35 AM

It’s been a busy spring for members of the North Okanagan Cycling Society.

Aside from enjoying the great outdoors on their bikes, members have been repairing some of the trails they’ve blazed in local parks.

Daniel Poulin with the Society says they’ve had to do work in the Cougar Canyon area of Kal Park after a hard winter.

“It was very substantial. The amount of water that we had coming off one of our newer trails, Stone Free, actually, that trail specifically needed a lort, a lot of work.”

Work was finished on that a couple of weeks ago.

Poulin says members recently had to replace a bridge on the popular Pond Loop trail in Kal Park.
“The water was actually flowing over the bridge cause the water was so high. So, It looks like they did a little bit of trenching and got the water flowing underneath the bridge a little bit more and built a new bridge that’s a little bit higher, should stand up a little bit better.”
Poulin says there is no lack of work right now
“There’s still quite a bit, particularly the higher trails. We haven’t been able to spend as much time on the higher trails because they’ve thawed out more recently.
We’re making pretty good progress on the lower trails. They’re in pretty good running condition.”

He says trails are startiung to dry out more now.

Society members are out every 2nd Monday working on maintaining trails
