Kelowna RCMP cracking down on illegal E-dirt bike use
Kelowna RCMP is increasing enforcement on unauthorized and high-risk drivers operating E-dirt bikes on city streets.
In recent months, police say they have seen a sharp rise in the use of electric off-road motorcycles, particularly models from brands like Surron and Talaris, in areas where they are not legally permitted, including roads, sidewalks and bike lanes.
“These types of bikes are for off-road use only,” said Const. Tyler Hug of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit. “When used in public areas, they pose a significant safety risk and can lead to serious legal consequences.”
Although E-dirt bikes are relatively new compared to traditional gas-powered dirt bikes, the RCMP says the same rules under the Motor Vehicle Act apply to both.
