Planned Hero Forest for Kelowna after Memorial Cup

May 30, 2026 | 7:02 AM

Another special event will be hosted Sunday associated with the Memorial Cup in Kelowna – this time of an ecological nature.

The Trees for Life organization and the City, in collaboration with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and sponsor Kubota Canada, are planting a ceremonial tree in Kelowna’s Sunset Park where a new Hero Forest will later take root in celebration of the 106th Memorial Cup.

The Hero Forest will serve as a tribute to Canadian military veterans, both living and deceased.

The cup trophy’s origins are a remembrance to fallen Canadian military personnel.

As for the planned Hero Forest, the reintroduction of native vegetation and increased tree canopy will offer a multitude of ecological benefits.

A community tree planting will take place in the fall.

The planting happens at 11 a.m. Sunday at Sunset Park, 1055 Sunset Dr, Kelowna,
