Lumby Priority Flood Mitigation Over Council Issues

Jun 7, 2017 | 6:56 AM

The Village of Lumby continues to prioritize flood recovery efforts.

Mayor Kevin Acton says they’ve deferred some issues that would come up at council meetings because staff are taxed enough.

“Any of our major decisions that we have to move forward on our strategic plan for this year have been moved up to July.”

Acton says there is still a lot of work to do to recover from the flooding.

“Staff have been really tasked with the flood mitigation and now we’re looking at the cleanup. So, we’re still reeling from the logistics of the first wave of the work that we did.”

Acton says the recovery process from the flooding in May is more challenging than he expected.

“There’s certainly some frustrations, but people are getting home and we are cleaning up. The town looks nice. We’re ready for Lumby Days. So, it’ll be good.”

Lumby Days is this weekend.

Acton says there are still a few people out of their homes.

The Village hopes to follow up with the government this week to find out about grant applications it made to help pay some of the flood mitigation costs.
