Mar 4, 2025 | 10:17 AM

The United States imposed tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico Tuesday, and the City of Vernon said the situation is being monitored.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order hit Canada and Mexico with 25 per cent across the board tariffs today, March 4. The only exception was for Canadian, energy which was seeing a 10 per cent levy put in place.

In a written statement to Vernon Matters, the city said it was watching the situation and preparing for potential impacts.

“The City of Vernon is closely monitoring the situation regarding tariffs and is assessing the potential effects on infrastructure projects. While these tariffs may lead to higher costs for some goods and services, we are committed to minimizing disruptions and maintaining our core services,” the City of Vernon said.

“We remain focused on Vernon’s long-term growth and sustainability, and our priority is to ensure that residents and businesses continue to thrive, even in the face of shifting economic conditions.”
