Sentencing in child sexual assault retrial to be handed down in late-April

A man found guilty of sexual assault of a minor will learn his sentence in the spring.

On Feb. 6, 2025, a judge in Vernon found Keith Chase guilty of sexually assaulting an underage girl while he was her hockey coach in 2004.

The B.C. Prosecution Service said Chase appeared in Vernon court Tuesday, Feb. 18, and was ordered to be back in court on April 24, 2025, to learn the sentence.

The Prosecution Service did not state if Chase remained in custody.

The retrial was ordered after B.C. Court of Appeals ruled the judge made errors in the original trial in 2022, and the conviction was overturned.
