The B.C. Wildfire Service will be undertaking several prescribed burns locally to help manage fuels and reduce wildfire risks for the area.
The Wildfire Service (BCWS) told Vernon Matters that six prescribed burns were planned around Vernon, Coldstream and the North Okanagan.
The burns would be done to manage fuels loads, reduce wildfire risks, act as cross-training opportunities involving provincial and local firefighters, and enhance ecosystem resiliency by emulating natural burn cycles.
The BCWS said it would work with area municipalities during these prescribed burns, and that the dates, locations, and scope of the work would be announced when those details become available.
