A tournament featuring some of the top squash players in B.C. will be held in Vernon.

The Roster Sports Bar and Grill will host the 2025 Nixon Wenger Vernon Squash Open from February 20 to 23.

The tournament will be a Professional Squash Association (PSA) Satellite Event with a $1,500 purse and will feature seven draws of all levels.

“We are thrilled to bring a PSA event to Vernon, elevating the level of competition while continuing to provide an inclusive and competitive environment for players of all levels,” organizer Mike Halliwell said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent in BC and beyond, and we’re grateful for the support of our sponsors and the squash community.”

Four of B.C.’s top players will participate in the tournament: Sunny Seth (ranked 6th overall in B.C.), Akifumi Murakami (11th), Emilio Carillo (21st) and Jason Herring (22nd). The third ranked junior in Canada, Youssef Taha, will also participate in the tourney.

Local squash pro, Peter Trafford, will kick off the event with a match against Murray Bennetto at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

The event will feature seven competitive draws, open to all skill levels. The main draw matches will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, and the finals will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23.

There will be silent auctions open to players and spectators, with all proceedings going to support the Vernon Squash Club, which was recently formed.

The club noted all the matches will be open to the public to watch.
