UPDATE: Traffic light still out on HWY 6 following crash

Motorists were advised to be cautious as the traffic light at the intersection of Highway 6 and Kalamalka Lake Road was not functional Thursday evening.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services said a two vehicle collision occurred at the intersection around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, and fire crews along with Vernon North Okanagan RCMP and B.C. Emergency Health Services attended the scene.

The crash caused a power outage affecting the traffic light, and VRFS reminded drivers to be cautious in the area and that the intersection must be treated as a four-way stop.

The condition of the people involved in the crash was not disclosed.

Traffic heading out of Vernon was backed up Thursday afternoon following a crash on Highway 6.

A caller to Vernon Matters said a vehicle crashed on the highway at the intersection of Kalamalka Lake Rd. at approximately 3:40 p.m., Jan. 30.

A photo of the scene showed a pickup truck had knocked over the traffic light.

As of 4:30 p.m. first responders were still on the scene and traffic heading east towards Lumby was backed up all the way past Polson Park to 25th Ave.

The City of Vernon confirmed that Vernon Fire Rescue responded and were still on the scene as of 4:30 p.m.

Further details, including the number of vehicles involved and the condition of the person or persons involved was not known as of time of publication.
