Environment Canada and Interior Health have issued an air quality statement for Vernon and the North Okanagan.

The weather agency said Friday, Jan. 17, that there was high concentrations of coarse particulate matter in the air, particularly around busy streets and industrial areas.

The advisory will remain in place until precipitation, dust suppression efforts, or a change in traffic patterns leads to the air quality improving.

Environment Canada said exposure to the particulate matter can be harmful to people with pre-existing conditions such as asthma, COPD, heart disease and diabetes; people with respiratory infections; pregnant women; infants; and older adults.
