No Arrests From Violent Melee
RCMP are trying to find out more details about a brawl near a Vernon nightclub early Sunday morning.
Police were called just before 1 am about a large group of fighting outside Status on 29th Street.
Several had fled, but a 20 year old man was taken to hospital with a cut to his face and sustained a substantial amount of bleeding.
He was later released and due to his level of intoxication taken into custody by the RCMP until he could care for himself.
He was subsequently released the next morning.
Just over a minute of the fighting was posted on social media by someone at the scene.
It showed about a dozen men fighting and some violent incidents where a man had his head stomped on by another combatant.
“The investigation into the incident continues'” says RCMP Cpl.Dan Moskaluk. “Anyone with information or having witnessed the fighting, are asked to call Vernon-North Okanagan Detachment at 250-545-7171 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.”
The owner of the club, Saverio Loria, tells the Morning Star, the people fighting were not customers of the Status club, and the fights did not start inside his facility.
“It’s important to note we haven’t named the specific outlet or venue. We do know it around some of the nightclubs. Which one it spilled out from, or started from, it would be unfair for us to name that one particular club,” says Cpl. Moskaluk.
Moskaluk says they don’t know what caused the fighting, and they don’t have any suspects identified at this point.
“The investigation is in its infancy. We did respond to the scene. It’s one of those typical situations where the people have dispersed prior to to out arrival,” says Moskaluk. “We certainly prefer to get to a scene and have everybody in custody that’s involved and then determine whether we’ve got consensual fights or if someone was assaulted.”
