The B.C. Government is supporting several forestry projects across the province, including two in the Okanagan.

The province announced an investment of $5.1-million to support seven forest-sector capital projects and five planning projects Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Included in the investments was a committment of up to $100,000 for Kelowna’s Acutruss Industries Ltd., which designs and manufactures engineered wood building components. The funding would support the purchase and commissioning of equipment to manufacture precision cut I-joints, and would create 12 new jobs in the process.

PBS Truss MFG Ltd., a new manufacturer of engineered building components based out of Penticton, will also receive up to $520,000 to support the construction of a new manufacturing facility and the purchase of specialized equipment, creating 23 jobs in the South Okanagan community.

The money will be distributed through the B.C. Manufacturing Jobs Fund.

“Using available fibre wisely is an important part of B.C.’s plan for sustainable forestry,” Diana Gibson, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, said.

“The B.C. Manufacturing Jobs Fund is partnering with forestry companies throughout the province to grow and stabilize their operations and get the most out of our fibre supply, while producing more made-in-B.C. engineered wood products.”
