Okanagan Lake Rises More From Sunday

Okanagan Lake rose another centimetre from yesterday and now sits at a level of 343.24 metres

Fifty percent of this year’s snow pack has yet to melt.

The lake is now predicted to rise to 343.50 metres by the middle of the month.

Lakeshore Road at Kin Beach was closed this morning at 8 o`clock so that members of the Okanagan Indian Band can fill a Gabion dike.

An assessment by Emergency Management BC suggests the integrity of the road could be compromised by wave action from Okanagan lake.

Meanwhile, residents of the Holiday Park mobile home park worked through the weekend shoring up and extending a sandbag dike to protect several homes along Vernon Creek.

The Okanagan Indian Band supplied the sand and bags and a First Nations forestry crew from Pemberton came in to help.

Private residents along Lakeshore Road towards Okanagan Landing Road were also scrambling to protect their properties from the rising lake.
