Mall Stop Still Under Discussion

Jun 5, 2017 | 6:09 AM

There is still no decision on moving a transit stop closer to the Village Green Centre — but the discussions continue.

BC Transit says they are talking with the mall’s management.

Mayor Akbal Mund isn’t sure why it’s taken so long.

“I’m sure they have their reasons for what they’re trying to put together, what’s best for safety and residents. I believe it should be in the the mall area, and not outside the mall area,” Mund tells Kiss FM.

The mayor says most bus patrons would like to see it outside the Bay entrance.

“I’m sure if you stood by the bus stop there, and asked people where they would like to see it, most would say within the mall, but it’s an issue that BC Transit and the mall will deal with.”

The mall’s main bus stop used to be outside the food court entrance, but was moved onto 48th Avenue last November after a land swap deal for bus pullouts fell through.

The change made the stops tougher to get to and from for people with mobility issues, especially in the winter.
