Crews have started the demolition of the several city-owned buildings in downtown Vernon.
The former New Delhi Restaurant and Open Learning Centre on 29th Street are being taken down to make room for a parking lot.
In the long term, it could become part of extending 25th Avenue to 27th Street.
The first part of the project took a couple months to remove asbestos and other hazardous materials from the site.
The city says all the demolished material will be ground-down and used as a layer of cover at the landfill.
There may be periodic traffic delays at the site while the demolition is taking place.
