Pier Use Continues Despite Closure

The Rotary Pier at Kal Beach was closed to the public last week — but that hasn’t stopped hundreds of people from using it since then.

Coldstream’s Chief administrative officer Trevor Seibel says the facility was closed for safety reasons, but at this point they have no plans to enforce it.

“But should the structure show any indication that there may be issues that would create an increased safety risk, we may look at that avenue, to keep people off the pier,” he tells Kiss FM.

Seibel says the pier hasn’t been damaged from the high water, but they are continuing to keep an eye on it.

“The pier is different than a lot of the boat watch docks that float. This one is stationed and locked into the ground. We haven’t seen any damage yet, but we are continuing to monitor it.”
