RDNO reminds people to be safe outdoors as fire danger rise

Jul 11, 2024 | 4:30 PM

With the hot weather and fairly dry conditions, the Regional District of North Okanagan is asking people be cautious of the wildfire risks.

The RDNO reminds the public that smoking, vaping or any form of open flame is prohibited in all regional parks, trails and natural spaces.

The Regional District still encourages people take advantage of the natural amenities, but to be carefull and not do anything that could spark a fire while recreating outdoors.

The warning comes as a province-wide campfire ban is expected to take effect Friday, July 12.

Anyone who spots a wildfire, unattended campfire, or an open burning violation is asked to report it to the B.C. Wildfire Service toll-free at 1-800-663-5555 or by dialing *5555 on a cell phone. Fires within the RDNO can also be reported by calling 911.
