Falkland Stampede Plans 100th For 2018

Fresh off near record attendance for the 99th Falkland Stampede, organizers are already thinking about how to make next year’s event extra special.

Manager Jason Churchill says some ideas for the 100th will cost more money, but he feels it would be worth it.

“We’d like to bring in some sort of a bigger act, something maybe nobody in BC has seen before. I’ve got two or three ideas in my head.”

Churchill says he’s looking at a contract act, such as the One-Armed Bandit, who he says puts on an impressive show.

“There two or three of those big acts that have never been to BC before, so it would be kind of cool to get one of those.”

Churchill says over six-thousand people took in the three days of rodeo over the long weekend, which he says was a near record.

“They weren’t just watching, they were inter-acting and cheering and they really enjoyed the show, so that makes it all worthwhile.”

There were no serious injuries to the participants or animals.

“One cowboy got stepped on but he didn’t even need medical attention.”

Churchill says the event is a lot of work for a little town west of Vernon to pull off, adding close to 200 volunteers help out.
