Wildfire Not Officially Under Control

The wildfire that broke out near Lumby Tuesday is not officially under control, but there’s been no problems with any flare-ups.

“It’s being held, and that’s the term were using right now. That is just a step before being under control. Basically the fire is not spreading, it’s being held in place,” says Max Birkner, information officer with the BC Wildfire Service.

Birkner says the Cooper Mountain blaze remains at 4.7 hectares, and still has about a dozen crew members on site.

He says they still don’t know the cause.

“All I know now is that it’s suspected to be human caused, but it’s still under investigation.”

The blaze led to 30 homes on Cooper and Hurt Roads being put on evacuation alert by the regional district Tuesday, which was cancelled the next day thanks to cooler weather and showers.
