RCMP recover vehicle while responding to theft

Mar 20, 2024 | 2:06 PM

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were able to recover a stolen vehicle while responding to an unrelated theft.

At around 2:50 p.m. Monday, March 18, police were called to a report of a theft from a business in the 5000-block of Anderson Way.

Staff reported a man and woman left the store without paying for items and were loading them into a pickup truck in the parking lot.

Police arrived on the scene, located the suspects, and blocked in the vehicle so they could not leave.

The pair was arrested without incident.

Police then investigated the pickup and confirmed it with one that was recently reported stolen from the Kamloops area.

A 29-year-old Vernon man operating the vehicle refused to provide a breath sample during the arrest, and was subsequently issued a 90-day driving prohibition. He was also charged with one count each of theft and possession of stolen property.

He was released from custody following an initial court appearance.

The woman was released from custody without charges.
