Armstrong Urged To Dredge Meghan Creek

May 25, 2017 | 6:17 AM

Armstrong Council is being told it’s time to dredge Meghan Creek.

The creek flooded earlier this month affecting residents of a strata development – Meadow Creek Lane.

Mayor Chris Pieper says they feel the flooding will happen again if something isn’t done.

” The creek has probably not been dredged for I would say 25 years or more. And with storms and development the creek has risen.”

Pieper says dredging is not an easy solution

” I think it’s definitely the cost of doing it, but it’s the permission of doing it. It’s a very onerous and complicated process to work within a riparian management zone.”

He says there are several environmental and riparian management rules that need to be followed.

Staff have been asked to explore the options with various ministries on how to deal with the matter.

Pieper thinks the provincial government should be looking at this on a wider scale due to the effects flooded streams and creeks have had on many areas this spring.
