There were no injuries but several people lost their homes to a fire just outside Kelowna’s downtown core.

Kelowna Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1000-block of Bernard Avenue around 4 a.m. Monday, March 4.

Firefighters arrived on the scene, where a three-plex was involved large flames and heavy smoke, and attacked the blaze.

The fire department said all the occupants of the structure were able to escape the building without injury.

The fire also destroyed two vehicles. The Kelowna Fire Department said the blaze appeared suspicious and an investigation into the cause would be undertaken.

The fire department added people should check their smoke alarms regularly.
