Pier Closed At Kal Beach

The District of Coldstream has closed the Rotary Pier at Kalamalka Lake.

Coldstream’s Chief Administrative Officer Trevor Seibel says it’s a precautionary move.

“The waves last night were obviously crashing into it. There was people out on the pier last night when they probably shouldn’t have been. It’s a safety concern to keep people away from that.”

Seibel says it’s a phenomenon that people tend to gravitate to toward storms but with the wind blowing again today, it’s better to be safe.

“Obviously, that’s why we’ve taken steps to close the pier off now just to keep people away to make sure there aren’t any unnecessary issues that arise.”

There’s no indication the pier has been damaged.

“Not to my knowledge. We’re doing some additional work this morning just in terms of assessments and we’ll be looking at some things later today as well.”

The pier will be closed to the public until further notice.
