Wind Storm Creates Headaches

May 24, 2017 | 8:44 AM

It was windy night and for many in B.C., a night without power.

B.C. Hydro says almost 75,000 customers were without power at the height of last night’s storm, most on the Lower Mainland and in the Thompson-Shuswap.

Half of those were still without power this morning.

Hydro crews have been working throughout the night to restore service, but power lines were blown down in many areas, and it will take some time to get them back up.

In our area, 59 properties in Coldstream were knocked out by the wind in an area west of Petworth Road and North of Highway 6.

In Lake Country, 1439 homes lost power when wires came down.

BC Hydro says it could be this evening before everyone is back up.

The winds also caused a lot of damage to properties on both sides of Okanagan Lake up from Kin Beach.

Waves kicked up the the wind took out some private wharves and blew out sandbag dikes. One bladder dike near the yacht club is also said to have been damaged.
