UPDATE: Jan. 12

The cold weather continues to impact Silver Star Mountains operations.

The resort, east of Vernon, said on its website only the Gondola and Silver Queen lifts are operating Friday with the Comet and Silver Woods to be re-assessed for Saturday, based on conditions.

The Putnam Creek area (Powder Gulch & Home Run Tee) and Alpine Meadows Chair will remain closed Friday and Saturday, with a high likelihood of the same for Sunday and Monday.

All of the resort’s terrain parks are closed Friday and night skiing will not be operating this weekend.

Tube Town and Brewer’s Pond will close at 6 p.m. Friday.

SilverStar closes backside, pauses night skiing due to cold

Some lifts and runs at Silver Star Mountain have been temporally closed due to the extremely cold weather.

Management has decided to close the Putnam Creek backside, including the Powder Gulch Chairlift and Home Run Tee Bar Friday and Saturday, and possibly on Sunday (Jan. 14)  as well.

The gondola will not be operating for night skiing on Friday and Saturday, but the Silver Queen Chair should be available.

Resort staff say the temperature at the top of the gondola lift Thursday was minus 24 Celsius.

Elsewhere, Big White Resort near Kelowna has shut down its Bullet Express for night skiing Thursday, but the Plaza Chair remains open.
