Nakusp RCMP member not facing charges relating to fatal crash

Dec 12, 2025 | 12:33 PM

Charges are not being pursued against an officer involved in a fatal crash in Nakusp.

The B.C. Prosecution Service (BCPS) says an investigation was launched into an incident that occurred on November 25, 2024, when a member of the Nakusp RCMP spotted an alleged stolen vehicle.

The member followed the vehicle and activated its lights and siren, and the suspect vehicle then lost control and crashed into a ditch, resulting in the death of the driver.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. opened a file on this matter and determined that there were reasonable grounds to believe the officer involved committed a Motor Vehicle Act offence leading to the fatality.

The report was forwarded to the BPCS for consideration of charges, but the Prosecution Service stated the did not meet the charge assessment standard and would likely not result in a conviction, so no charges were laid in connection with this incident.
