Efforts Underway To Prevent Pump House Flooding On Kal Lake
The rising level of Kalamalka Lake has Greater Vernon Water officials concerned about the coming storm.
Water Manager Zee Marcolin says the pump house is in danger of flooding.
” So we have about two, three inches before it goes in the door and we have a couple of inches before it goes in the wet well, so we’re just prepping for the worst kind of thing.”
The wet well is where water is brought in and then pumped up to Mission Hill to be treated.
Crews have been busy sand bagging and pumping out water.
” It is a room made for water, so it’s not that big of a deal if we get four inches in the pump house but we just want to keep it away from the electrical.”
It won’t affect water use as the Kal Lake source was turned off last week and all city water is coming from Duteau Creek.
