Truck transporting chemicals catches fire on Connector

Highway 97C west of Peachland remains closed due to the truck fire near the Pennask Summit.

DriveBC reported the closure from the blaze that started around noon was still in place as of 5:30 p.m.

The next update is expected at 9 p.m. Friday.

Part of the Coquihalla Connector had to be shut down west of Peachland Friday afternoon after a commercial truck caught fire.

The truck was transporting chemicals that ignited.

West Kelowna Fire and Rescue was on the scene and police reported progress was being made at the time of their report at 12:05 p.m. Friday

Drive BC said at 2:15 p.m., the road was closed east of Brenda Mines with an assessment in progress and to expect delays. Click here for updates.

RCMP said westbound lanes of Highway 97C remained open, however travel was slowed due to the incident.

The cause of the fire is not known.
