Expect Coquihalla Speed Traps Today
Expect plenty of speed traps along the Coquihalla Highway this weekend.
Sergeant Mike Pears of the Central Interior Traffic Services section says they typically see an increase in speeding over the May long weekend.
“This is the first significant weekend where we see big increases in traffic and everyone seems to be in a hurry to get to wherever they’re going,” said Pears. “We do ask that people relax while they’re driving, slow down, and leave the cell phone alone.”
Pears says RCMP will be out in full force ensuring drivers adhere to the speed limit.
He says drivers should prepare for more slow-down spots than usual between Kamloops and Hope as crews continue to repair flood-damaged culverts along the highway.
According to Pears, speeding fines range from $138 to $196.
Drivers caught going 40 kilometers or more over the speed limit will receive a $368 fine and have their vehicle impounded for seven days.
