State of Emergency Extended

The local state of emergency in Lumby has been extended another week.

The village says extended it to May 27 will enable the municipality to continue certain activities in response to the flood events.

The Province’s Rapid Damage Assessment Team is now on site in Lumby, and are conducting external inspections of flooded homes.

“Evacuated residents can call 250-547-1452 during regular hours for the information pertaining to their property,” says a village news release. “The outcome from these assessments will not affect the Evacuation Orders or Alerts currently in place. Residents will only be able to access their property when the Evacuation Order is lifted by the municipality.”

Twenty-four residences remain on evacuation order, with another 80 on alert.

“The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will be operating remotely until Tuesday May 23, at which time the EOC will resume operating out of the White Valley Community Centre located at 2250 Shields Avenue,” says the release.

People are urged to continue exercising caution around the creeks.

All recreational trails, including the Salmon Trail, remain closed until further notice.

There are no drinking water advisories in effect for the Village of Lumby.
