The District of Lake Country is applying for a 5 million dollar grant from the Federal Gas Tax Fund so it can add on to its recreation complex.
Mayor James Baker says the impetus for the grant is a new home for the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club which currently uses the now for sale Winfield Elementary School
” Which means the Boys and Girls Club has to find another home and so we want to build and do upgrades at the recreation area.”
The upgrades would be to the Senior’s Activity Centre, making the complex multi-generational
” There would be day care and things for boys and girls clubs of all ages plus seniors’ upgrades.”
The District also plans to use money from its Capital Reserve Fund if the grant is approved to help pay for the project.
