State of Emergency Extended

May 16, 2017 | 3:22 PM

The state of local emergency has been extended in Lumby.

Paddy Juniper from the village’s emergency operations centre says this extension goes to Saturday, but that won’t be the end of it.

“We will be looking for another extension. You have to apply four days in advance, so we will be looking to extend past May 20th,” says Juniper.

Juniper says water levels have dropped eight centimetres since Monday, but the warmer weather later this week will create high flows again.

“The levels have gone down, but the snow melt is going to start coming down as well. The creek levels have come down, but they need to prepare for a higher flow.”

Juniper says sandbags should be left in place.

Twenty-four homes are under evacuation order, with another 80 residences on alert.

Effective Wednesday, May 17, Shields Avenue will be closed to all local traffic until further notice to allow for relocation of materials.
