Program helps trades employers fill skilled labour gaps
More success stories from a pilot program to help North Okanagan businesses find skilled foreign workers, are being shared.
Like other construction and manufacturing businesses, Kingfisher Boats was dealing with a skilled labour shortage while demand for recreational boats took off.
The Vernon boat manufacturer sought help from the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) project which has worked out so well, Kingfisher has now filled eight positions this way, from assembly technicians to welders.
“This program has allowed us to look beyond Canada to see who is skilled and who can help us build our boats,” Sarah Gregory, Kingfisher’s chief HR officer, said.
