Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care facility in Vernon.

The health authority said the outbreak on the first floor of Heritage Square on 27th Street began Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Interior Health (IH) reports that the outbreak has resulted in four cases as of time of publication.

To prevent further spread the affected unit has activated COVID-19 measures and is not permitting visitors or new admissions.

Other measures are also in place at the affected unit such as cancelling activities and outings, encouraging residents stay in their rooms as much as possible, rescheduling non-urgent medical appointments and having staff masked and gloved.

Meanwhile, the influenza outbreak at the Gateby Centre on 30th Avenue declared on Nov. 29 ended Dec. 8.

IH said the outbreak involved a total of eight infections, though there were no deaths or hospitalizations linked to the outbreak.
