Saskatchewan stabbing suspect taken into custody in small town

Sep 7, 2022 | 3:10 PM

A manhunt that started Sunday after a series of deadly stabbings in Saskatchewan has ended.

Police say they have taken Myles Sanderson into custody in Rosthern, a small community between Saskatoon and Prince Albert, after responding to a report of a man armed with a knife and driving a stolen car near Wakaw, northeast of Saskatoon.

RCMP have said they will provide more details later today.

Sanderson was wanted on charges, including first-degree murder, after a series of attacks that left 10 people dead and 18 injured on Sunday.

A second suspect — Sanderson’s brother Damien — was found dead Monday.

RCMP have released a full list of victims’ names, including Bonnie Burns.

Her brother, Mark Arcand, said Burns died while trying to protect her children at her home on the James Smith Cree Nation.

Her son Gregory was also killed.

Among the other victims are Earl Burns, who was killed, and his wife Joyce Burns, who was sent to hospital with injuries.

They are the suspect’s former in-laws, and court records show he assaulted them in 2015.
