Silver Star to benefit from fire resiliency funds
A portion of provincial funding intended to reduce community wildfire risk will benefit Silver Star.
The province has allocated $25-million through the Forest Enhancement Society of B.C. (FESBC) to fund 22 new community projects, eight of which are within the Thompson-Okanagan region, including one at Silver Star.
The local investment will see $474,600 go to the Silver Star Property Owners Association to complete a combination of hand and mechanical wildfire risk-reduction treatment to reduce the wildfire risk along the main road in and out of SilverStar Mountain Resort.
“People across the Okanagan have first-hand experience with the disastrous affects of wildfires, and these investments will take important steps to protect people, communities and land,” said Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Monashee.
