Vernon’s newest hotel open for business

Best Western Premier Route 97 Vernon on Anderson Way opened for business on Wednesday and reservations are already flowing in ahead of the Canada Day week-end and Funtastic Festival.

This is the second Best Western Premier opening for General Manager Peter Smith, who has relocated to Vernon from Medicine Hat Alberta.

“We are Vernon’s newest and most luxurious hotel, we are set-up as a regular hotel as well as an extended stay hotel, so we have rooms ranging from a standard two queen to a fully contained one bedroom apartments,” Smith told Vernon Matters. “We have 124 total guest rooms all with granite countertops and tile floors.”

“We have a wonderful state-of-the-art business centre, state-of-the-art aquatic centre, state-of-the-art fitness facility with a Peloton machine which will be coming shortly, once the backlogs clear up,” Smith added.

For meetings and events the facility has 4,000 square feet of meeting space with the latest audio-visual equipment, and a ballroom that overlooks Swan Lake with capacity for 200. The hotel has already been in discussion with organizers of some major community events.

“This is going to be the venue to have your wedding, your prom, your trade show just about anything,” Smith said.

The new hotel also features a lobby lounge and full restaurant.

The construction period happened through the heart of COVID-19 restrictions and is opening a time where there is a critical shortage of workers, especially in the hospitality sector.

“We have been able to attract some good people, and we are still working on it, but the opening team we have here is top notch.” Smith noted. “Going through the opening is always a wonderful process, and when it happens it’s amazing to be able to welcome guests.”

The new hotel is one of several new developments along Anderson Way. There are two parcels totalling just over 5 acres still available adjacent to the new hotel at 5400 and 5450 Anderson Way, listed by HM Commercial Group for a combined price of $9,990,000.
